Here is a video that details how I go about processing HDR images. I do not do as many HDR images as I used too because the development module in Lightroom 4 is able to recover many of the blown highlights or even the lost shadows. Still, there are times when it is necessary to get the full dynamic range. Another reason to process HDR is if you happen to like the effect that Tone Mapping can provide. As many things in photography HDR and post processing are subjective. I can tell you this though... Non photographers love most of the HDR images they see.
