Back in 2001, yeah, it feels like a lifetime ago to me too, I decided to get serious about this thing called photography. I had taken a college class and read a few books but quite frankly, I stunk… Then, I randomly picked up this book called “John Shaw’s Nature Photography Field Guide”. It absolutely changed my photography. The writer had a great talent of presenting the information in a very easy to understand way. It also helped build the foundation for more complex ideas. Over the years I have read this book many times and even had the chance to see John Shaw present on three separate occasions. I recommended this book many times.
Then, the world of digital really set in and while many of the basic concepts remain true much of the book dealt with older equipment and shooting slide film. It also seemed that John had decided not to write any more physical books.
John Shaw is still my favorite wildlife and nature photographer and I check his website often (www.johnshawphoto.com). While looking at his bio one day I noticed that he was planning on writing an updated book called “John Shaw’s Guide to Digital Nature Photography”. I went right then and pre-ordered the book on amazon. The book is due out March 17th so expect a full review soon after.
