Shooting Fireworks on the 4th of July

So you want to shoot fireworks and have no idea where to start.  Well, here are a few quick suggestions to point you in the right place.

Needed Gear

  • Camera (duh)
  • Tripod
  • Remote Release (the camera self timer will work if you do not have one of these
  • Wide Angle Lens/Wide Angle Zoom
  • If you are looking just for the bursts of the fireworks (as in the images above) you could also use a telephoto zoom for isolation.

Recommended Settings

  • Shutter Speed:  2 seconds
  • Aperture:  f/11
  • ISO:  100

These settings are recommendations if you are concentrating on the fireworks only.  If you have foreground objects in the photograph you will have to adjust these settings accordingly.

Happy Independence Day!!!!!  Now, get out there and make some images!
