Rick Sammon is known for his "Sammonisms" and I have quoted him before. One of his quotes says "When you remove the color from the scene, you are removing some of the reality from the scene, and when you remove some of the reality, an image can look more creative, more artistic".
Both of these images were taken after a morning hike out to a Coastal Prairie in the Everglades. The magic hour had passed and I was on my way back to the truck. When I first looked through the view finder at these images I was not impressed but then, I started thinking a bit more artistically and imagining what they would look like as black & white.
The next time you are out with your camera take a second look at a scene and imagine what it would look like if you removed some of the reality. You might be surprised by the results.
Thank's Rick for all of your quotes and inspiration. You really are the Godfather of Photography.
